Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is simply charming! It’s a romantic comedy set in 1939 that tells the story of a middle-aged woman who becomes the secretary to a vivacious singer/actress. You’ll have so much fun watching this one!
I will be the first to admit that this movie is absolutely heartbreaking. However, even though you’ll need a box of tissues, you won’t regret watching this beautiful portrayal of love!
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is at the very top of my list of favorite period dramas! Set in the 1940s, it follows author Juliet Ashton’s journey as she comes upon a secret book club that changes her life forever.
My goodness is this film beautiful! It tells the enchanting story of how J.M. Barrie came to write the beloved Peter Pan. The soundtrack is simply magical too!
I could go on and on about Tuck Everlasting! I’ll never forget reading the book and seeing this film when it was released in elementary school. I was (and still am!) absolutely taken by it. It tells the love story of Winnie Foster and Jesse Tuck as they share a summer that will change their lives forever.
Brooklyn follows a young Irish lady to New York as she navigates life as an immigrant and assimilates to her new surroundings. This movie is SO pretty. There is a particular scene that takes place on Coney Island – it is a pastel dream!
Speaking of pastel dreams…I couldn’t think of a better way to describe Mary Antoinette. It follows the luxurious life of Mary and is visually stunning!
You know I couldn’t leave Pride and Prejudice off this list! This is a perfect period drama for the hopeless romantic. The 1995 BBC series starring Colin Firth is wonderful too!
If you enjoy suspense and mystery, you will love The Prestige! I saw this film multiple times in the theater when it was released and LOVED it. Set in Edwardian London, The Prestige tells the story of two magicians who have dedicated their lives to the art of illusion.
This 1995 adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved book, A Little Princess, is so special. I watched this film over and over again as a little girl and always adored Sara’s imaginative spirit, I know you will too!
Somewhere in Time tells the story of young man who falls in love with a woman he has seen in a photograph taken decades prior. He discovers a way to travel through time so that he can meet this woman, a famous stage actress, and of course – they fall in love!
