READING SELECTIONS

GET LOST IN THE MAGIC OF STORIES

The Enchanted Book Club honors literature’s beloved heroines and the authors who created them. Our monthly readings feature an inspiring collection of classics, fiction, and occasional non-fiction. For contemporary selections, book club members are invited to virtually meet with the author over a cup of tea for a heartfelt discussion. Joining the monthly readings is always optional, and just one of the many activities we offer to enchant your life with the magic of literature.

APRIL 2025

THE UNSELECTED JOURNALS OF EMMA M. LION VOLUMES 1 & 2
“i’ve always enjoyed the small turn that happens when one month folds into another. the exchange of the many for the one, the end for the beginning, over and over and over. my mother would say to look for bright things at a new month—’first day, emma. what do you see gleaming?'”

Delight in the joys of journaling this April as we read The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Volumes 1 & 2. Set in Victorian England, this series follows Emma M. Lion, an independent and sharp-witted young woman navigating the peculiarities of London life after inheriting her uncle’s house. Through her private journal entries, Emma observes the absurdities of society, the quirks of her neighbors, and the unexpected turns of fate with humor and intelligence. Our book club will enjoy a discussion with the author, Beth Brower.

THE KEW GARDENS GIRLS

Get lost in the world of literary gardens during “Garden Month” at The Enchanted Book Club! Our reading selection follows three women who find strength, friendship, and a sense of purpose in the lush greenery of London’s Kew Gardens amidst the turmoil of World War I. When war calls men to the front lines, Ivy Adams, an independent-minded young woman, takes a job at Kew, determined to support the war effort while escaping a troubled past. She soon befriends Louisa Taylor, a suffragette with secrets of her own, and Winifred, a timid but determined woman seeking a fresh start. Together, they challenge societal norms, tend to the nation’s cherished botanical treasures, and fight for their right to be heard in a changing world. Inspired by true events, The Kew Gardens Girls is a heartwarming and uplifting novel about resilience, female friendship, and the quiet rebellion of women who dared to dream beyond the expectations of their time.
