Dear Kindred Spirit,
Since its inception, it has been my dream to make The Enchanted Book Club an enriching literary experience that immerses us in our most beloved stories. I’m delighted to announce our next literary trip—an exciting adventure for fans of Anne of Green Gables. In September 2024, we’ll embark on an adventure to Prince Edward Island, L.M. Montgomery’s beloved home and setting of the Anne of Green Gables series. We’ll visit Green Gables Heritage Place, the site of L.M. Montgomery’s home, venture down Lovers Lane and through the Haunted Wood, and even soak in the sights on an enchanting carriage ride. I can’t wait to experience the magic of Prince Edward Island together!
Love, Hayley, host of The Enchanted Book Club

Located on six acres in the heart of Cavendish and right next door to Green Gables, Kindred Spirits Inn & Cottages is a quiet sanctuary in the middle of Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
ITINERARY & REGISTRATION
The Enchanted Book Club is offering two PEI tours. Our first tour is September 7th – 11th, 2024. Our second tour is September 11th – 15th, 2024. Both tours include the same exact activities. Each tour will have approximately 18 guests. Guests should be prepared to walk distances of less than one mile, mostly on flat terrain. Guests with mobility issues may not be able to walk through the Haunted Wood as it has a number of steps.
DAY 1: Arrive at Kindred Spirits Inn & Cottages at your leisure. Enjoy a welcome dinner with our group. Transportation from the airport is included.
DAY 2
Each day, after enjoying breakfast at Kindred Spirits Inn & Cottages, we will board our private motor coach which will take us to our sites for the day.
You will visit:
-Green Gables Heritage Place: Site of the beloved Green Gables House, Lovers Lane, and the Haunted Wood — enchanting locations that inspired L.M. Montgomery to write Anne of Green Gables.
-Montgomery Park and Cavendish Cemetery: Walk in the footsteps L.M. Montgomery once did as she walked to school everyday. Here you will find a beautiful statue of Montgomery. Across the street is the Cavendish cemetery where Montgomery is buried.
-The site of L.M. Montgomery’s Cavendish home: It was here she wrote Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Kilmeny of the Orchard, and The Story Girl, as well as hundreds of short stories and poems. This site also has one of the largest collections of Montgomery books available to purchase.
-Green Gables Post Office: In an exhibition presented at the Cavendish post office, you will discover the fascinating connection between L.M. Montgomery and the post. This small exhibition invites you to follow her manuscripts through the postal system. Many objects from the collection of the Canadian Museum of History illustrate Lucy Maud Montgomery’s work as assistant postmaster.
Plus, enjoy lunch at PEI Preserve Company!
DAY 3
You will visit:
-Anne of Green Gables Museum at Park Corner: Built in 1872 by L.M. Montgomery’s Aunt Annie and Uncle John Campbell, some of the artifacts you’ll see inside are Anne’s Enchanted Bookcase, the organ on which her wedding march was played, Crazy Patchwork Quilt, the Blue Chest from The Story Girl and many more special items found in Montgomery’s stories.
-Avonlea Village: Avonlea was the fictitious name that L.M. Montgomery gave to Cavendish. In addition to the original schoolhouse she taught in, the Minister’s residence and the 1872 Historic Long River Church, Avonlea Village offers replications of houses and shops from the time of Anne of Green Gables.
-Montgomery Birthplace: Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in this house on November 30th, 1874. Experience an intimate tour of the rooms, including the old fashioned bedroom where her life began. On display are scrapbooks depicting LM Montgomery’s personal life as a student at Prince of Wales College and her years as a writer and teacher.
-Cavendish Beach & PEI National Park: This area provided many inspiring moments for Montgomery. Many ships sank off this coast especially during the Yankee gale. She wrote about the Marco Polo ship which sank right off Cavendish Beach when she was a young girl
-Dalvay By The Sea: This the real White Sands Hotel featured in the Anne of Green Gables films starring Megan Follows!
Plus, enjoy a carriage ride traveling through beautiful flower gardens, by the Lake of Shining Waters, and continues across a country road and down a private lane where you will enjoy pastoral fields, rolling hills and red farmland.
Optional: Experience a traditional Ceilidh (pronounced “kaylee”). There are ceilidhs somewhere virtually every night of the week on Prince Edward Island. What is a ceilidh? A social event at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing, traditional dancing, and storytelling.
DAY 4
You will visit:
-University of Prince Edward Island and the L. M. Montgomery Institute: The L.M. Montgomery Institute (LMMI), is housed in the Robertson Library at the University of Prince Edward Island and dedicated to researching the life and works of one of Canada’s most cherished authors. Here you will attend a private lecture from Montgomery scholars and be able to ask all your questions as well as tour the library which has some of her works!
-The Bookmark Bookstore: Browse Charlottetown’s locally owned, independent bookshop for your next read.
Plus, see Anne & Gilbert: The Musical. Since its launch in 2005, this show has become the most successful and critically acclaimed new musical in Canada. Anne & Gilbert begins in the beautiful countryside of Prince Edward Island. Anne is now an independent-minded young woman about to begin her first job teaching at a one-room schoolhouse. Romantic complications unfold when childhood sweetheart Gilbert Blythe proposes marriage– and he’s not her only suitor.
Enjoy a final dinner with our group of kindred spirits!
