Audrey Hepburn’s Favorite Books

There is no doubt that Audrey Hepburn is one of the most beloved storytellers of all time. Her grace, talent, and generous heart not only made her a mesmerizing actress but a one-of-a-kind woman that continues to inspire hearts all over the world. While browsing through The Hollywood Book Club: Reading with the Stars I was curious to know more about Audrey’s reading life and what her favorite books were. After a little research, I came upon various “Audrey reading lists” and thought I would share some of her favorite titles here on the blog (along with sources for beautiful editions of each!)

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
The Jungle Book Barnes & Noble Collectible | Available here

In this children’s classic, you’re invited to coming along for an enchanting adventure with Mowgli, a young boy raised by animals in the jungles of India.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
The Diary of a Young Girl Fingerprint Publishing Edition | Available here

Anne Frank’s diary is one of the most-read books in the world. Audrey felt a deep connection to Anne — so much so that she decided not to portray her in a film. When Anne Frank’s father asked Audrey to play his daughter she explained, “I was so destroyed by it again, that I said I couldn’t deal with it…it’s a little bit as if this had happened to my sister… in a way she was my soul sister.”

The Collected Works of William Shakespeare
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Barnes & Noble Collectible | Available here

Whether it be Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s works continue to rank as the greatest dramas ever produced in the English language. What is your favorite Shakespeare play?

Heidi by Johanna Spyri
Heidi Puffin in Bloom Edition | Available here

Heidi is one of the most inspiring literary heroines I’ve “met.” Much like The Secret Garden, there are timeless pieces of wisdom sprinkled throughout this story. It has been one of my favorite Enchanted Book Club picks so far!

Have you read any of these books before? Let me know which your favorite is in the comments below!
